The Epidemiology Fellowship Program is a two-year program with emphasis in epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health. The faculty includes numerous members of the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, and American Academy of Arts and Sciences as well as many fellows who are leaders in their own right. In addition to its strengths in cancer research and HIV/AIDS, UCSF has active programs in cardiovascular disease, diabetes, aging, and genetic disorders.
Mentoring at UCSF is strong; our trainees work closely with other researchers, physicians, nurses, and staff on projects that have direct impact on patient care. The breadth of opportunities available means that all trainees will find areas of research that suit their specific interests while also preparing them for academic careers or entry into the private sector.
The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine strives to be among the top five medical centers in the country for basic and clinical cardiovascular science. It comprises more than thirty investigators across a broad spectrum of disciplines, from gene regulation to cellular physiology to molecular medicine. Its goal is to understand the fundamental mechanisms controlling normal heart function and to elucidate how these mechanisms go awry in the pathogenesis of heart disease.
The overall objective of the Center for Neuroscience is to discover new neurobiological mechanisms underlying normal and disordered brain function, with a focus on mental illness.
